A coin struck from a fresh early die can be a thing of beauty but seeing what happens to that die as it ages and comes apart has its own attractive character . That said , die events definitely find their way into my collection.
Cud on Coins earliest cent with a RIDB ia a 1945 so I need to send this 1940 in .

Die crack both sides--this is a particularly nice coin. Well done!

Probably not worth a lot but if it were mine I'd certainly keep it.
Among other things I'm partial to die cracks.

Many thanks for the kind words all!
Kanga , more than likely correct. I actually paid a bit of a premium for it but it's not a resale item, I just wanted it.
Then again, when you consider what I paid for the pack of M&M's that my wife wanted at the Miranda Lambert concert we just went to , this coin was a smoking deal !

This looks like a later die state. Note the flow lines under the bust? It looks like the fields were polished and removed the flow lines from there. The reverse is also a later die state than the obverse. You can see the PDIT on it. The die cracks are showing the die is aged. So it is not and EDS coin. Basically a face lift die event. But because of the lack of die flow on the fields, it would probably be graded higher. Notice the weakness of the bust. The devices on the reverse.
