I have a 2016 quarter that behind the cowboy the skyline all has a matte then at the head of the horse on one part of the water shiny the part closest to the edge is matte. Both sections of the quarter that have the matte finish aren't matte on a 2016 d north Dakota quarter. I just wanted someone else's thoughts on why it is like this.

It is probably you lighting that is creating this. If the light shines in the center of the coin and straight down, then that works better. (But hard to get the light source where you want it some times.

Someone may have used something acidic to dull the finish. Normally a quarter should not look like this after three years. Perhaps it was in a soda at some time, flatting the finish on the coin. (going by the looks of the obverse)
