Yes, I think you're right that this is environmental damage. Almost looks like it's growing mold, oddly. Maybe there's some brie under there.

Yeah it does, the front looks like an artist is incorporating the mold as smoke from a gunshot wound to the head

Looks more like a split plating issue and the rot that is happening to the coin. A circulation coin that should be put back to work.

this is definitely a spender, sorry but this is zinc rot at its finest. Did not leave the mint like that, keep searching though.

This is a penny (same date and mint) I took pictures of a month or two ago. Similar issues....what that says I don't know!

sorry but these are not mint errors this is environmental damage, PMD if you want to familiarize yourself with errors on coins to look for check out the links in my signature below
