2016 P Dime What Type Of Error - Coin Community Forum

The dies used were in the last stage of their working life. Thousands and thousands of strikes lead to the distorted devices you see on this coin. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/18/2019 11:30 pm Also Machine Doubling and the weakness of the devices was caused by die polishing. Note the flatness of the area on both sides of the torch? There was probably Feeder Finger Damage, and when they polished both sides of the die, it reduced the fields, also removing the height of the device on the obverse.
