From the Mint:

"The iconic Silver Maple Leaf design on the reverse of this unique silver coin seems to pulsate when you tilt it, thanks to technology developed by the University of Ottawa Centre for Research in Photonics and the Mint's Research and Development Team. Tiny mirrors designed to precise specifications create the illusion."

Did not see any threads about this. Did anyone buy one? I know the premium is a bit steep ($200 for $45 worth of Silver), but this is one beautiful coin. I ordered mine because it seemed very unique, and only 3000 minted so if I wanted one now is the time.

Why has there been this lack of excitement for this? It was released almost 3 months ago now and still hasn't sold out. Given the low mintage, that is surprising to me. The 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof ASE with a 30,000 mintage sold out in 15 minutes, but this with a 3,000 mintage is still not sold out 3 months later? Weird world we live in lol...but demand is demand, and there does not seem to be much excitement about this, despite being a very beautifully designed coin. Curious what people think

It is certainly interesting but you cannot compare the US market with the Canadian one. The RCM has so many different products that collectors are getting fatigued. In the US there are a smaller number of product types so you have more dedicated collectors who want one of each.

From my view, there are several factors at play.

First, as oriole noted, the US and Canadian coin markets are very different and can't be compared head-to-head. There are many more collectors of US coins vs. Canada's coins; mintages that have been considered as extreme excesses in Canada would generally be seen as "too small" in the US.

Next, though I agree that the Pulsating Maple Leaf coin is attractive, the RCM releases so many coins with a maple leaf of some sort as the primary design element that collectors need to be selective in regards to which maple leaf coins they add to their collections - it takes very deep pockets to collect them all! Most collectors don't have such pockets and so some issues (such as this one) don't drive significant demand.

Also, the fact that this coin is a two-ounce piece vs. the standard one-ounce maple leaf coin likely took some collectors out of the mix. Some collectors seek consistency in what they collect and don't pursue coins that fall outside of a specific set of criteria.

I didn't purchase one of the Pulsating Maple Leaf coins. The only numismatic maple leaf coin I buy from the RCM is the annual 1/2 ounce "Maple Leaf Forever" coin; it has been issued each year since 2011 (one per year). It's a 1/2 ounce silver coin with a changing annual design that is one of the RCM's lower priced coins each year. I like 'em!

Would support every point that Commems mentioned.

I do like maples, but how many can I afford and collect?
Rapidly growing collection kills my interest as well.

Doing the same
+ 1/2oz 2012 Penny coin, which is also "Maple Leaf" however doesn't belong to the series, being 1 level superior.
I thought to get as well 1/2 oz maples from fractional sets (they are very attractive)..but will be too much.

I would also add to the points made the stiff premium. While the RCM does make some beautiful coins, they like to suck the bone dry with issue prices where the majority of products even the low mintage ones (although 3k isn't exactly low mintage for a lot of what they do) are basically assured to lose value and sometimes significant value. If they had done that at half the price there probably would have been at least some excitement.

You can already find these below issue price on ebay

Basebal, please tell me where you can find these below issue price? Issue price is $200 CAD or $150 USD. The cheapest on ebay is not below issue price.

Several have sold for under $150 without even accounting for ebay bucks.

Cool looking coin. I can't find these anywhere for $200 Canadian. I guess they became popular at some point. I found one listed as low as $350, but that's it.

It's not the coin was very popular as it took months to sell out. It is rather the normal process of selling out coins over time.

People bought the coin for their collection rather than flipping it. That is why you don't see too many on secondary markets like ebay.
