Is This "Mechanical Doubling" Or Is This Coin An FS-50-1978-D-801?

Guys, please help me out as a newbie coin roll hunter. I found in my first $500 box of halves a 1978D Kennedy half which is a non-damaged circulated coin normal in every respect except for some doubling on the reverse only of the lettering "United States". My fifth edition Volume Two of the Cherry Pickers Guide does not list any known die variants of a 1978D Kennedy half. So should I assume this is Mechanical Doubling? Or is this a die variety discovered after the printing of Volume II, Fifth Edition? Please review the attached photos and give me your thoughts.

Thanks!

Morgan Guy

Thank you, John1! After reading your post, I went back and looked at all the pictures of DDRs in the fifth edition, volume II and noted how round and soft the doubling is. My 1978D half's doubling is flat, angular and sharp. So I guess by implication that that is the hallmark of MD.
