Here's a recent pickup. When I saw it I didn't even stop to haggle, I just said "this is mine, now tell me the price." I really am considering sending this one into a TPG. I just love the blues and purples that wander across lincoln's visage. Not a bad buy for a coin thats going to turn 100 in just three months. Let me know what you think about the grade.

Nice toning! Interesting to see other 09 Lincolns with these colors.

The toning looks unnatural. -PP

I'm fairly certain its natural, its probably just the picture it tends to remove some of the depth of the color from the coin.

I like it but wonder about the wheat ears - Is that corrosion?
It's a high MS coin to me - How about MS64RB?

There are a lot of coins with altered color out there, and some worse than others. From the pictures I'm certain the coin has been altered to some degree. -PP

It is in nice shape. What did you give for it if you don't mind me asking?

I am going to have to disagree, there are many Lincolns that have naturally toned with a bluish tint. Many of the early matte proofs are toned with some beautiful colors including blue. I have read that early Lincolns that are not toned to some degree have been dipped at one time in there life. If you want to see some beautifully toned Lincolns check out this site- http://bwrarecoins.com/?category=7Or check out my gallery below my signature for some other toned Lincolns, I collect toned Lincolns with character! BTW, BQ nice find, I would grade it MS64-65, beautiful cent!

chrsb, There is a BIG difference in the toning on the coins on the web page you posted and the coin in question. -PP

Pretty coin! The toning appears natural to me.....here it comes...but... The dies in 1909 were sharp. The back of the ear seems to have a slight rub and possibly the cheek (hard to tell with toning and pic focus). And don't think that's a strike issue since the 09's are normally well struck. The obverse (and reverse) fields are very nice, but toning can cover that without a lot of rotation and tilting examination. The reverse motto's look nearly free of hits. But reverse definately shows wear. The wheat seeds on the 09's are always sharp on an MS coin, these are flattened from wear. I also see some wear on the wheat heads. Compare to my 1909: The right wheat stalk has a spot from removed verdigris. I also see a couple spots from verdigris removal on the outer part of the left stalk. This coin would likely be body bagged as cleaned at the major TGP's. I give it an AU-50 without seeing it in-hand. A couple angle shots would bring out the toning more and show better detail. It's difficult to grade/judge from those pictures for me. You seem to be a little out of focus. Check into the photo forum for some tips. OK, the critisim aside...I can tell it's probably a beautiful coin in hand. I know I've picked up many like that without really thinking twice because the eye-appeal was so excellent. I would have bought this coin some some haggling. But sometimes dealers are stubborn on toners as they can command a hefty premium....I know, I've paid it many times. LOL

here's a couple under florescent light and one taken from a different angle. I'm positive from the comments of others, my own collection, and the fact I've got the coin in hand and just reeeeeally need work on my photo skills that the toning is in fact all natural. Now the Grade gets anywhere from AU to MS depending on who is looking, the coin in hand looks MS to me.

The coin looks completely different in the small size picture than the other ones. I can actually see some luster now. Nice coin. -PP

I've been told these are fire coins. Coins that have been in a house fire or business fire.

This 09 is not a fire coin IMO. Here's a fire coin: Image Insert: Image Insert:
