Hello all,

Could this be an extra partial "5" or "D"?

Just a die chip. The 1950's Wheat cent dies were way over used past normal retirement. So all kind of strange stuff was found those years. (Some in the 1940's we also over used)

Yes looks like a plain ol' die chip to me, but still that '58-D is in pretty amazing shape.

Because of the strength of the extra detail, I am thinking die chip because it seems like if it was caused by the hub more of the 5 (or other device) would be visible.

Also , where it intersects the 5ends too abruptly. It would be a more even transition at that intersection.
