I have the 2007 P/D set, and 4 PF69. I love the proof coins more, and I think if I am gonna add more Presidential dollars to my collection, they will be Proof not the reglular ones.

Right decision, but for me it was very difficult to complete the 2007 P/D set. Specially that I live in Egypt.

I prefer the proof coins myself. I haven't had any graded yet but I am thinking about sending some in.

I continue to make a couple of albums for these and continue to collect the proofs......which will later go into those albums.....but I've really soured on the whole Presidential dollar Series.....such high mintages and over marketed......but I guess that's the way the U.S. Mint is doing business these days with everything really !

Ah, Andy Jackson. What an interesting character.
In college I took a complete course (The Middle Period in American History) on Andrew Jackson.
There are those who hate his memory due to the forced moving of the Indians from the Georgia and Florida areas.
But, he did many good things. He was a man of the people, a man of the West.
And, what an interesting life. He killed a man in a duel. He was shot in the back by a man who would later become a U.S. Senator -- and they both became great friends.
So, when I see a Jackson Dollar, I think beyond the numismatics of what I am looking at, and think about the man and his role in the building of America.

Jackson might not have been a Saint, but his role in the history of our nation cannot be denied. Have you ever visited The Hermitage? I went there a couple of years ago and recommend it to anyone interested in Andrew Jackson.

How do you know if they are proofs? I have been left the $1 pres gold coins but they are in rolls ( George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison) There are 2 rolls of each pres (they are the $25 rolls) Not sure what to do with them- any suggestions?
Thanks

Quote: How do you know if they are proofs? That is easy- they look completely different from a business strike coin and are minted only in San Francisco with the S mint mark. Proof is not a condition, it is a method of manufacturing. A proof coin is struck twice with a higher than normal pressure. Dies for proof coins are specially prepared- the devices are frosted and the fields are polished to a high gloss, the planchets are also burnished. The resulting coin will then have frosted devices and polished fields giving the coin a strong contrast, a fully detailed strike, and squared rims. The contrast is known as cameo and the strongest difference where is known as deep cameo(DC or DCAM). Proofs are sold in special annual sets called Proof Sets which has one of each coin minted in a year. As for your rolls, they sound like regular bank rolls. Are the wrappers just normal bank wrappers like NF String and Sons or clear plastic? If that is the case, you can just spend them but make sure to check for missing or doubled edge lettering first If the wrappers have a special appearance, they may be the special rolls that are sold by the Mint. Exact same coins as those used in commerce, just a special wrapper but the Mint does charge a premium for them.
