I have recently had a death in the family and found some coins hidden away. I am trying to find what they are and if they are worth anything. There is a 1899 half dollar, 1908 half dollar, 1914 quarter, 1964 half dollar and a John Adams coin. The coin look old but I can find nothing on it. The back has writing on it that says he created the Navy in 1902 due to the european war cloud.. Anyone heard of it or is it a new coin? I searched and found nothing
Thanks for you help

Yes, they are all worth something, but how much depends on their condition.

Don't clean them.

Take some pictures and post them here. We will help you with their value.

Welcome to CCF! These are coins I am not familiar with, so I hope to see you post some pictures, soon. And, I suspect, so are others!

......posting pictures of them here will be the best way for ID'ing them and valuing them.

The 1899 and the 1908 are referred to as a Barber Half and could be worth several hundred dollars depending on condition.

The 1914 Quarter is a Barber as well....and depending on it's condition could be worth $4.00 or $100.00.

1964 Kennedy half is a 90% Silver coin........10x face value even in bad condition.....

All of these coins have Silver content and are VERY collectible !

The "John Adams" coin however......This is not a U.S. Commemorative officially Minted coin..........(unless it's the 1923 Monroe Doctrine Centennial Commem......where he is pictured with James Monroe, and this is John QUINCY Adams, not John Adams)

But there "is" information about this coin minted by the US Mint and commissioned by the state of California......try this link

http://www.collectorsquest.com/blog...adams-coins/
As Secretary of State under James Monroe, John Quincy Adams helped draft the Monroe Doctrine. To commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the Doctrine, the state of California commissioned the minting of 300,000 collectible coins bearing both Monroe and JQ Adams' heads.

So, when you say "John Adams" coin........are you referring to "John Adams" or his son and this Commem. Coin picturing "John Quincy Adams".......

I'm not aware of a "John Adams" coin other than the Presidential dollar in 2007.

The back has writing on it that says he created the Navy in 1902 due to the European war cloud

This is confusing, because John Quincy Adams and his father were both LONG DEAD BY 1902 !

THIS, HOWEVER, IS LIKELY YOUR COIN.......AND IT'S REFERRING TO TEDDY ROOSEVELT NOT JOHN ADAMS..

Those words from Teddy Roosevelt highlighted
the fundamental mission of the
Navy League. On Nov. 5, 1902, the Navy
League was created with the purpose:

Try this .........

This link will provide you with the information about this coin.....and I'm sure it doesn't picture John Adams on it......gotta be Teddy Roosevelt

Oh....and by the way......

...........

Have fun here and welcome to the hobby !

to CCF Erne,
My condolences to you and your family. We would definitely need to see photos of your coins to give you accurate advice. The John Adams sounds to me like a medal and not a coin at all. The others are most likely worth something. Looking forward to the photos.
