I keep receiving e-mails from the U.S. Mint saying I quality for free budget shipping for making 3 qualifying purchases this year. I have actually made 4-5. Now I can't get free shipping because I am not logged in. That is absolutely misleading. It make me quite angry and not want to buy anything from them ever again.

The U.S. Mint representative says I need to be logged in for all purchases to get free shipping, but the e-mail I archived mentions NOTHING about that anywhere in the fine print. It tells me explicitly I am eligible for free budget shipping for the rest of the year. This happened to me months ago too and I got screwed. One year ago, I was confused because I received a similar e-mail from the U.S. Mint followed by an e-mail rescinding it. They need to get their act together. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

It always shocks me when people think the BBB is something worth taking seriously given all of the reports that have been out about it over the years. Even if they were save your time, the US mint is the government they would have 0 power against them.

Don't you need to log in to buy from the US mint anyway?

I stopped buying from them a long time ago. Nothing I really want anyway. They don't make old coins anymore.

You can place orders by phone as well as online. I haven't done a phone order myself but I don't think that would require a login, just a credit card.

Once upon a time (and up until recently) you could order by... get this... mail.

For those that aren't aware, subscriptions ship with free budget shipping AND each subscription shipment counts as one of your 3 purchases towards loyalty status.

You know, for those of us buying coins minted this century.

Shocks me to.

Especially when I did some digging and learned that the BBB is a for profit private company. And that is all it is.

If you ever are forced to deal with them, and they make any allusion to not being a for profit private company or to being something more than that, call their bluff.

This is one of my favorite stories about them.

I'm actually more suspicious of any business that touts their BBB rating

Seems to me having the BBB endorse the US Mint is insane. The US Government is who backs the value of our money (the full faith and credit of the US government and all that). Why do we need a 3rd party to endorse them? This is like having the boy scouts endorse the Marine Corps.
