Ok, this is another Album set I bought years ago, all coins came in a bag with an empty album. Just opened today, I did not clean or touch them. Did this coin get some kind of Acid wash? It's so shiny I can't get good pictures, but under my loop I see doubling in the date and Liberty. Yes, I need a better camera, and an actual stylis so I don't have to use my finger to try and draw. I went through the Wexler's guide for this and found parts that matched for what I was seeing, but not all on the same coin. Also due to the surface condition I can't match known die lines and gouges from Wexler. Is this a true DDO, or MD? I tried to do due diligence before bringing it to you all for help. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all!

Looks to me like plate doubling.(could be wrong) Looks the have a bluish tint to the plating which would indicate that the coin has been replated.

I think the Bluish, is my camera taking pics of my microscope screen. Others in the past have commented on the blue tinge to other pics. I'm working on getting a better setup and a computer in my coin room so I don't have to try and work off my IPad. Thanks for the comments and taking the time to give your thoughts!

Ok yes regardless of the color, the shiny fields would suggest that these are "reprocessed" '43 cents.

Can I ask your thoughts on the 9 and 4 in the date, as seen in the 5th and 6th picture? I'm such a sucker. But I'm learning, they won't get me again. That's the problem with buying stuff over the years and just putting away till I retired.

That is true @sd. However, you are here learning now, which is very important. This Chinese proverb seems to apply: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." I see on varietyvista that there is at least one DDO that involves the date. I added a link to that page below, but it may be impossible to know for sure with this extra layer of plating. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...3PDDO019.htm

Die wear flows into the direction to the closest rim direction. Re-plating enhances the die wear. Just a Wheat cent now because of the plating issue.

Thank you all for your valuable thoughts and insights, truly appreciated. I still have several more bags of this miscellaneous stuff to get through, a lot more wheats I bought in bulk, some Ike's I got from the bank, then I can start working on my real uncirculated items I bought from established coin stores, or directly from the Mint. Again thank you all for the valuable lessons, and links to information!
