Lately I've read a lot about the Canadian coin market being in a slump...
My curiousity is if there were any one coin out there which may be rare and undervalued, and perhaps offer a chance of appreciating in value, what would it be?
Look forward to hearing which coins people think have a chance of growing in value...

Afraid no one would share that info with you . An astute collector , buyer , dealer would just quietly buy up a certain item and take a position . Also the Canadian market at the higher end can be completely flaky! The reason being , it is very very thinly traded and there is not a decent sized wholesale market , ie like the US has with the Grey Sheet .

There may be a modern date coin that this would apply, but I know nothing of coins dated after 1967 so I'm of no help.
As for earlier dates, the prices have already been well established (based on supply and demand) so there would be no surprises.

Pick up rolls of Canada dimes at your bank and see if you can find a 1969 Large Date

The margins are very tight right now. You have a handful of collectors that are paying big money, and most others are chasing the new stuff or buying just to stack

A good sleeper is worth researching. The hard thing to gauge is the actual demand on said piece.

With the population of the 2009 Goalie Mask coins being less than 200 each, I would have expected those to shoot up in price. But they typically still sell at $120-$130, even though their montages are comparable to the 2000p dime.

I seriously doubt that anyone could know which one would appreciate. It seems that all the appreciation, for the handful (out of hundreds per year) that appreciate, happens in the first year, then they slump or stagnate.

I would think that the more varieties (inventory) added to a shrinking buying market will equal smaller sold values on accross the board. It would be the same as adding more currency to a shrinking economy. That's all I can contribute, I like coins a great deal but dont see any big opportunities.
