Did the 54s come in another form? This penny looks more brass or some other base.

Thoughts?

@face, the different color may be due to a slight alloy variation, but more likely is a difference in environmental exposure. You could always weigh this Cent to ensure that it isn't some sort of off-metal strike.

Normal coin, just some sort of unknown environmental exposure.

Plus with the microscope and screen shots the images are basically coming through (at lest on my screen) as pretty much black and white or grey scale images. Can't tell one thing about the color.

I don't know what the strange lines are, but otherwise looks like a normal 54-S.

They took a picture of a screen, either through a digital magnifier or microscope, or a computer.

You see these when you take images off a monitor or sometimes on television.

I don't know what the strange lines are,

Moire interference lines, from the angular misalignment of the scan lines of the monitor with the lines of pixels of the camera chip. If the scan lines are parallel to the lines on the sensor there are no interference lines. But if they are at an angle to each other the interference lines start showing up and the distance between the lines are related to the angle difference between the scan lines and the sensor lines.

The die that struck your coin is showing extreme die wear on the devices in the closest direction of the rim. (A lot of the 1950's wheat cents look like this or even worse)
