Is this my Christmas present? The day T-bop and coinfrog grade my raw coin AU+ straight is a good day. Putting an X on calendar in fat black marker. Yes, this unnatractive toning- not corrosion but possibly years in the old blue open Whitman's album or acidic envelope? Any hypothesis? Copper is a sponge/reactive metal so this film was apparently a result. It was rinsed and dabbed in acetone the results changed the grayness not one iota.

AU58. That mark to the left of "OF" shouldn't hurt the grade IMO. That unattractive toning should come of with a gentle wipe down with some Blue Ribbon Coin Conditioner, Verdi-care coin conditioner or Classic Coin Conditioner. My bottle of Blue Ribbon is almost empty (after 16 years) and may have to resort to trying another product.

The haze on this IHC, already indicate this example has been dipped.

I would suggest Verdicare and a good water rinse.

Definitely use the Verdi-Care but hold the water rinse . Verdi-Care is a conservation product, also should semi-gloss that bad boy up . You don't want to wash that away .
Sorry acloco didn't mean to step on your toes .

My grade would be 55 sharpness net 50 due to a softer strike and no visible luster. That might change with a good Verdi-Care or Classic Coin Conditioner soak; should straight grade 55 or even 58 if the luster is strong underneath that haze.

AU-58, looks oxidized from being in an envelope or leather pouch for many years.
