Tanman2001, when I first started collecting I always thought most of the "doubles" on the Coins and Canada site were just Die Deterioration Doubling as well, but I was always curious if there was a difference between Canadian coin doubling and US coin doubling. According to Coins and Canada though this coin (if it is a match) is posted as "Zoell #D91q - Minor Coin Varieties - 5th Edition - 1970" so I'm assuming it must be a double, or so they say.

I'm curious about that as well. I believe coins and canadas errors are user submitted, so I'm not sure if I would use it as a reliable source, but I'd have to see that "Zoell Minor Coin Varieties" and see what that's about. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ra...rrors.78492/Did a quick search and the cover of one of Zoell's references is a coin that is clearly Die Deterioration Doubling. Because Die Deterioration is technically a die error, it could be called a die variety and not be completely wrong. And it really isn't wrong to say it is doubled. So I think there is a fundamental difference between what Americans call a die variety and what Canadians (At least these older references) call a die variety. Canadians include Die Deterioration, Americans don't. I believe your coin is Die Deterioration Doubling. Take that as you will.

I think SPP-Ottawa would be the man with the answers for this one, he seem's to know a lot about Canadian coins and helps me with a good amount of my finds, personally I agree with you though regarding the Die Deterioration Doubling but if Canadians are going by the Zoell Minor Coin Varieties (I've never personally seen it) and thats what it says this is than there really must be a difference in how Canadian and Americans determine coin varieties. I am use to searching US cents for doubles and if I seen this on a US coin I would assume Die Deterioration Doubling as well.

Thank you guys! I have a few of these so I will have to check the obverse, they are all lacquered and in very good condition.

Almost all Zoell minor varieties are errors not varieties. Although his catalogues are invaluable, comprehensive and interesting, to Mr. Zoell anything unusual was a "variety" no matter what the cause. A few of the error coins you have posted JohnWayne007 can be found in his catalogues and have "Zoell minor variety" numbers .

I have quite a few of these as well. Here is one that has the "doubling" all along the bottom.
