I thought this was a 1964 P 1c DDR-020. As I've learned more about doubling, I've realized this is probably just Machine Doubling. Can I please get a second opinion from someone more experienced than I? Thank you!

It's not DDR-20, but it is definitely a DDR. Closer to maybe DDR-16? -CH27

There is some clear notching on this one, definitely a DDR. The 1964 DDRs are very difficult to attribute because of how many there are and how many have yet to be posted on the many die variety sites.

Class 2 DDR. On later die states, these may not be seen as that part of the die wears out early. Sometimes in the MDS die state. But other areas internal may still show the DDR on those examples. I have examples, but not images.

Thanks, all! I'm encouraged that you each seem to think it is DDR, so at least I have that going for my newbie eyes. haha I can pull some other close-ups of devices if that will help us narrow down what it might be. Coop, thanks for your expertise--forgive my novice understanding, but what does "class 2" mean? I write a column for my local numismatics club's monthly newsletter talking about various finds one can encounter in circulation and would love to be able to write a proper correction to my misclassification of the DDR-020.

Class 2 refers to the way in which the hub doubling arose. Depending on who you ask there are 8 or 9 classes of doubled dies. Here is a link with some explanations. http://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/

I find it helps form a memory easier to see than to read. Also they can be copied and save for your own personal files easier. They save me a lot re-typing. Post, boom, it there.
