This one is coming in the mail in a couple days. What do you think? Can you guess which variety it is?

Yowza!!!

Well struck EDS 1911-D RPM-002.

On all fronts, that is an exceptional coin. Any well struck 1911-D is scarce as hen's teeth. Ditto for RPM-002. Throw in EDS, and you have a walk-off grand slam.

The technical grade is almost an afterthought for a coin this nice. I agree with EF-45+ here. (It's another "AU slider" that eventually will become the EF-48 pinpoint.)

Thanks guys. And Fort Collins, I was looking at other coins to compare this one to and noticed that they weren't as detailed. I was even going to ask if you think they use the strike as a grading factor on a circulated coin?

Officially, PCGS only uses strike as a grading element on MS-60 and above business strikes and on proofs. This appears in their eye appeal guidelines. That said, weakly struck coins frequently appear to be drop-graded, and sharply struck coins seem to receive the benefit of doubt on close calls. I believe that it is a factor. NGC certainly uses strike quality as a factor in star designations and likely also in plus grades.
