Hello all. I am new to collecting and came across this thread while searching for info on a coin I have as well. Mine is also a 1955 mad penny with the L stamped on the rim. Also on the reverse may have a die crack but I don't know enough to tell. Can someone please tell me what I have here?

ace2354, to CCF. You should start your own thread. The "L" is pretty normal for the year. The mark on the reverse if you are talking about between the E and P looks like a scratch from being circulated. John1

I see a possible die crack (cracked skull) on the obverse. Possible die cracks within the wheat stalks too (reverse). I have a several '55s which look much the same. Nice coin.

Thanks all for the warm welcomes. and Thanks ijn1944 for pointing out the head and wheat stalks. I just cracked open an old Pittsburgh Paints glass Bank that my great grandmother gave me and have many coins to look at and this was the first that caught my eye. Any advice for this coin is it worth having it look at or graded?

It is worth putting in a 2x2 and label it, great grandmother gave it to you. John1

Definitely not. Although it probably has some sentimental value to you, it's a very common date in low condition, so it's only worth a few cents tops.

Very true, had that bank for over 30 years figured it was about time to see what was in it.They will all probably go in a 2x2 as soon as I get some. stores don't sell them anymore and I have to wait 2 days to have them shipped to closest Walmart.

While not worth several thousand dollars, there is strong sentimental value, and it does display some of the more interesting characteristics of 1950s wheat cents. There are several fans of 50s cents who love to collect 50s oddities. It's possible you could get a dollar or two for it--from one of those crazed fans. Anyway, I'd keep it in a 2x2.
