Agree, spent considerable time in the ground. Last month I found a 1996D in dirt/sand not far from a beach. Looks almost identical to the '82 shown,.

Looks like a zinc penny. Can a copper penny look the same way? (bubbles)

Yes, buried or metal detector finds look is way, copper or zinc (but zinc might look worst).
Hard to tell, but it looks as if this coin is the large date version.

Only way to tell is to weigh it,but with the corrosion the weight might be off also.
