Here is a great example, of how even a relatively stable metal like nickel (or nickel-plating, in this case) can still be susceptible to corrosion, even over a short period of time. I found this one recently.

Sometimes I feel fortunate that I live in the desert - usually less that 15% humidity year round. Good for coins, bad for books.
