This is an anonymous AE fals of the Umayyad Caliphate, usually dated AH 116 (AD 734). They sometimes bear the mint name al-Ruha (ancient Edessa) but most are mintless and believed to be the product of a number of mints in the Jazira (northern Mesopotamia) and northern Syria. There are many minor varieties. The inscriptions are in Arabic. The obverse field (2nd image) translates as "There is no god but Allah alone, there are no others with Him". The obverse margin is a portion of Quran 9:33 "[Muhammad is the apostle of] Allah. He sent him with guidance...". The reverse field is "Allah is One. Allah is the Eternal. He begets not, nor is He begotten". The reverse margin should contain the mint name (if any) and the date written out in words. Album, Checklist of Islamic Coins, #195.
