Well I am still going through these BU rolls of Jefferson nickels and I ran across something that I have only seen on the 1943 Jefferson nickel. Or is this so common that it isn't something to talk about? From one direction of light its pretty cool looking, from another its pretty scary looking! Or are my eyes playing games with me?

Well I don't know what's going on with your coin but I checked variety vista and wexlers and there wasn't any listings for a doubled eye. Maybe one of the pros will chime in and help you out.

Any chance we could get a clearer closeup of the area in question? I've not heard of doubled eyes on nickels before, but I'm wondering if it's some kind of Die Deterioration issue. Curious find.

I will try to get some better pictures, thesw Jeffersons are very bright, making it difficult to get a good pic. But Ill give it another go :)

I have a couple mote pictures, but I have tried everything trying to zoom in on the eye area. Glare from every direction and lighting.

I'm thinking this is probably from Die Deterioration. Note how ripply the surface is. Someone else may correct me, but this last pic especially gives me that impression.

Also slight Machine Doubling. Note the area affected is flattened and not raised like a doubled eyelid would be.

So do you think it would be collectable?

Machine Doubling is considered damage by most collectors. It's very common. No premium value. Sorry.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
