@dorado, nice set of coins from 1875 that you have posted. I wonder--do the die cracks affect the numismatic value of the German 5 Pfennig coins? Thx.

In 1874 I have 3 more people's coins (Volksmunzen) rather than glittering goldie coins.  This 1874 5 pfennige of Germany (German stamps to 1880 spelled it pfennige for some reason) and its my oldest coin of Unified Germany, although I believe the all Reich coinage started in 1873 for the low values and got rid of all the Thalers, goldgroschen, guilders, hellers, silbergroschen and every other deriative beforehand. Condition VG and I think F is Stuttgart? |

Starting with the coin that started it all for me as a kid - getting this 1874 penny in my pocket money! It was the first coin in my collection and in much better condition than usual for a bun penny in the late 1960s! There are lots of varieties for this coin - no room to go into them here, but this is a Royal Mint specimen with the more mature portrait:  Sixpence (Die Number 49):  Shilling (Die Number 2):  Florin:  Halfcrown:  Sorry, Princetane - a long gap now before the next halfcrown! Wow, all the usual Trade dollars and double eagles are holding off today. NumisRob your post landed while I was writing this, your penny has a tiny H visible sorry. Know all about the Halfcrown hiatus - 1851 to 1873, mainly to give attention to promoting the Florin (And production of half crowns was erratic in the early Victorian era). They did issue proofs in 1851, 53 and 1864 apparently. Even better is I have 9 Halfcrowns dated between 1816 and 1845 to show too! Here is a decent 1874H farthing  I kind of like it And another worn lowball penny for you - I think its an H  Edited by Princetane

It's too off-centre for an 'H' and is PMD. Yours definitely looks like a H. Your farthing is nice. I've got a very battered one! I've also got a worn 1874H penny:   Royal Mint, younger portrait, slimmer neck, wide date:   Royal Mint, older portrait, narrow date:   Edited by NumisRob
