Timing always bites for me. I have just bought a collection of halfpennies and farthings 1860 - 1956/67 and the farthings are all at least VF, including when I show tomorrow, 2 x 1862 with complete lustre and virtually uncirculated. Overnight my lowballs have become collectors pieces. Everything from 1930 onwards is at least AU and all KGVI and QE2 is unc. Here is my first 1862, a very interesting Ottoman Turkish 20 Kurush from 1862  In VG/Fine and dated AH 1277 (1861) YEAR 2 (1862) of Abdul Aziz's reign. The coin is slightly smaller than the Egyptian 20 Piastres. I love and what shocks me is how cheap it was, just $30 NZD. |

I would show those farthings now, but its dark and I can't take photos in artificial light, plus its midwinter with daylight only to 4.30pm and been raining non stop. Its currently 9pm here.   2 Belgian 10 centimes dated 1862 and they are in gVF and aVF condition - quite a lot of these show up in this era. Very early uses of nickel/cupronickel and surprisingly durable. |

My final non British coin for 1862 is another Italian   This time its the 5 centimes, just 1 year after reunification. Not a bad piece, Fine or better and no damage, corrosion or verdigris for once. Tomorrow, those farthings  |
