And here is a beat-down French Liard that I'm about 90% sure is from 1696, although the last digit on the date is pretty hard to read.

Between this Saxony-Albertine coin, and the Saxony-Albertine-Poland coins I posted for 1699 and 1703-7, Friedrich August was elected King of Poland (Sept, 1697), so the legend on the shield side of the coin changes from
FRID AUGUST ... DUX SAX (Duke of Saxony)
to
FRID AUGUST REG POL DUX SAX (King of Poland and Duke of Saxony),
and the coat of arms from 1698 onward incorporates the quartered arms of Poland-Lithuania.

I have this 1/24 Thaler listed as coming from plain old Saxony, but please let me know if I need to adjust that attribution. Thx.

I would name it same as @pepactonious: Saxony-Albertine. Yours is Dresden mint, @pepac's is Leipzig mint. Here is a link from a reputable source with catalog numbers. https://www.ma-shops.com/olding/item.php?id=268045

This one may equal pepactonius' Hanau-Lichtenburg and Montfort coins for obscurity, but certainly not for quality.

1694 Duchy of Courland, szostak (6 groschen).
In the second half of the 16th century, Sweden, Russia and Poland-Lithuania fought for control of the old territory of Livonia (more or less today's Latvia + Estonia). When the dust settled, Courland, which sits on the northwest border of Lithuania, came under control of the Poland-Lithuania commonwealth, and would continued to be administered as a semi-autonomous duchy (with the right to mint their own coins) for the next century and a half. The obverse features a portrait of the local duke, but the reverse has the arms of Poland-Lithuania.
