I've recently inherited some coins and while looking through them I found this nickel. I'm a beginner but have done some research on nusimatics, need help identifying this coin error. Now I do know there is no known coin to have a 360° Cud error so I'm skeptical on believing that I actually have a one of a kind coin but it does look like this was caused by the mint! Any info would be great thanks.

It's just PSD or Post Strike Damage. It looks like it was damaged on the rims and then returned to circulation.

@pcs, first welcome to CCF. Second, as @yokozuna noted, the rims have been folded over on this coin, but that happened after the coin left the mint. Sometimes that happens when coins spend time inside industrial clothes washing machines.

Thank you for the quick response and another question for you. How can one tell if it was post strike damage or if it happened at the mint?

A good understanding of the minting process is the most helpful information. What can and does go wrong from the time that sheets of coinage medal are made and blanks are punched out to the time that the dies strike the blank planchets.

Watch this for a little information on the process.
