Is it more common to have pieces of metal and debris stuck in the older coins like this?

Honestly me too until I really zoom in. Getting my pics down to 300 does a number on them.

This kind of thing does look normal -- from what I can tell these are mostly scratches, dings, etc. from being out in the world. Since it's older it's had more time to get tossed around and beat up. If we're missing something, though, by all means direct our attention to it. You might draw some little arrows on whatever you're seeing if you think that would help. These are much better pictures than before, though, Michael. Thanks.

All I see are some dings and scratches that have displaced the metal. Nothing out of the ordinary for a 48 year old coin. Nice pictures though.

On the '9' there is damage on the west side of that digit. It makes it look like it might be a doubled die, but that metal is pushed aside, making the '9' look like something its not.

Normal coin with normal circulation wear and tear. A spendable coin.
