This 1936 Wheat penny has got something strange going on the reverse, is that a lamination error? Also seem to be doubling on IGWT on the obverse. There are also curved horizontal raised lines going through his hair, but I think that's just PMD.
What are your thoughts on this coin?

Not a lamination issue, it's either glue or some type of varnish on it. I have a 1930 that has been varnished. If you want to remove it soak in acetone.

I did soak it in acetone, it's not glue, it is a metal layer. What about the doubling in IGWT?

Could be a much older plating that has mostly worn off.
And yes, lots of PMD going on, and good old fashion wear.

How long was the soak time..I'd leave it in for at least 8 to 12 hours...IGWT looks like MD to me...Abes hair= PMD

Greasy fingers I soaked it for three hours, I didn't know I could leave them in there so long without risking corrosion, so thank you for the advice. After a three hour soak, I use a q-tip dipped in the acetone and gently skim the surface of the coin. There was only the normal color on the q-tip, no evidence of paint or laquer. If it was plated, why is it the same color of an about uncirculated coin? The brighter section that remains is as reflective as such.
IGWT has a light to medium spread through left to right, the devices are all normal sized being added to, it's still an MD? Thank you I have much to still learn and throw out

The lines on the head are damage. The center of the reverse may well have nothing on it and be just original color. This coin was probably attached to a promotional card or letter with a dab of glue when it was still mint red. It has since been removed. I have found quite a few like this.

stoneman227, That seems to be the most likely, alot of the coins I find have been sitting in this house for over 80 years. Soon I'll be outside with a metal detector
