Hi,
I have found a coin that that I don't know much about, I was wondering if anybody could give me some information on it.
Its a £1 Coin, its from 1989 and has a Castle/fort with a key. Around the edge it says 150 Anniversary of the First Gibraltar Coin.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you

Sorry about the image, couldn't find the camera so had to use my phone.

Not strictly a UK coin, although Gibraltar is a UK overseas territory. Several Gibraltar coins have had the Gibraltar castle and key on them. Including the first coins which this is commemorating the anniversary of. It is the main motif on the flag and coat of arms of Gibraltar.

The first coinage of Gibraltar was the Quart, the first of which were tokens released in 1802 followed by regular coinage in 1841. Curiously, neither date seems to be 150 years before 1989 however.

Could be the coinage was approved in 1839 but not minted until 1841, I am not sure.
