I'm reasonably sure it was caused at the Mint. Too big and in an unusual place for a die chip. Most likely die damage caused by a strike-through, i.e., something hard got in the way during the minting process and "dented" the die. Not grease since that smooshes out and becomes a smooth bump.

Might be a Struck Through error. And no, it's definitely not worth getting it graded by a TPG. Doesn't work that way. It has to be worth way more than it cost to get it graded. For example, both of these were worth way more than it would cost to get them graded, so it was worth it. Both of them are very valuable. http://goccf.com/t/364360

First,  From the pictures, it could be a retained lamination. It's a definite keeper, and a nice find. I agree with the upthread comments that this isn't worth paying for a TPG.

Thank you for your answers. I wasn't sure if that "blotch", combined with Decent grade might give it value. I have some other interesting coins I'm going to post for your opinions, and thank you very much. I have really Started to love coin hunting the last nine months or so, Sad the penny's future is slated for death soon. again thank you all!

Thank you COOP. Those links go a long way in showing the slight differences between the grades. Based on your links I would guess it gets a MS65 at best. not worth grading fees. I learned a lot today.
