Magnetic Bicentennial Quarter W Errors

Brothasouled72 New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 01/23/2020 02:35 am I have a bicentennial quarter but it is two toned silver/gold hue also uniformly scratches on flat sections eg. Not raised surfaces like date, face, drummer, etc. Its also VERY magnetic! I'm so confused and curious hopefully ill figure this upload thing and can share some pics! It might have been plated (after it left the mint). fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3644 Posts	Posted 01/23/2020 9:01 pm First, A CNC quarter is 8.33% Nickel. Like Fe, Co, and Nd, Ni is ferromagnetic. The outer layers of a quarter could be magnetized with a strong electromagnet, such as those found in a metal recycling facility or auto salvage yard. Report this Post to the Staff

I guess I should have gave a little more detail about how magnetic this thing is. I can get about 1.5"-2" when it catches the magnet. I could honestly say the 1/4" steel washer I had next to it has the same magnetic force as this quarter. Not only that but the die chip/ cracks as well as the 2toned coloring on both sides.
