So my thoughts on this are controversial, I believe I see what looks like a 1942 planchet that was struck early after the Mint relized the die had 1942/1 and decided to just polish away the 1. I could be completely incorrect and could just be something else, using my microscope I could see what looks like could have been a 1.well here are the photos ph and this is graded by anacs for just a grade no variety so its encased but having a problem deciding if it's a variety or just my imagination. thanks for the thoughts and opinions
There's no way they could have abraded away the 1 on that die without affecting the 2. The 1 and the 2 were equally as strong, so they'd have to remove the 2 to remove the 1.
