Is this coin legit? Wow what a find, very cool. It says 37.5 grams, putting it at a melt value around $1900. Any indication that this is worth grading? 1921 appears to be the first year with montage of only 180,000.

@gt04, sorry but I cannot help with grading this piece. However, I did want to share the pearl that you should be flattening those staples on the 2x2. Otherwise, you may find that the staples from one 2x2 rub against a nearby coin and scratch it.

Can you remove it from the holder and give us the actual weight?

Grading would be useful just to establish authenticity. ANACS might be worth a shot for that purpose. First get an accurate weight; if it doesn't weigh within 0.2 grams of 37.5 grams it's not likely to be genuine.

This piece is pretty beat up so if authentic it should grade no higher than MS-61. It will be valued mostly for bullion content.

42 grams, which seems to be the correct gross weight for .9 purity!

The coins are kept in a binder with pocked plastic sheets, which I think negates the concern of staples rubbing adjacent coins.

This is a bullion coin-it looks like it had light handling but that may be just due to the plastic.

You do not need to pay ANACS to authenticate it. Any coin dealer will have seen dozens and can easily do this.

Light circulation, AU-58. I see no red flags and it would be worth getting slabbed. Any coin of this value is worth slabbing as it makes it much easier when the time comes to sell.

These bullion coins are very common with the dates meaning little as so many re-strikes were made. I've owned a couple and yours looks fine. A precise weight, diameter and thickness would confirm all I would need to know if it were mine. Which unfortunately it is not. :)

Most of these are left raw.

P.S. Here's an identical piece that sold for melt a couple weeks ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-Mexic...047675.l2557
Specs are:
Gross Weight: 1.34 troy oz (41.67 grams)
Actual Gold Weight 1.2057 troy oz (37.5 grams)
Diameter 37.1 mm
Thickness 2.7 mm
