I've looked at this coin several dozen times and can't tell what the object might be, if anything. I tried to take some detailed pics. Any help would be appreciated! Maggie

In most cases when it affects the rim...IMO it's PMD (post mint damage) to CCF

Why would that be?

The problem I see is that both sides of the coin are affected. Which means the "object" would either have to wrap around the coin or it is indeed PMD.

How can we tell it was done post strike? Look at the outside edge of the coin. Note the affected area extends outwards on the edge? That tells it was done after the strike. If it happened during the strike that outer edge would be totally normal. Its not, so it was damaged after the strike.

Thank you for the responses.

I tried to upload full pictures of the coin but was unable to get the images under 300 KB, even with the help of the Optimizer. I will take a look at the tutorials and try again tomorrow.
