*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Found this one in pocket change. I have not seen any listings of DDO / DDR with assorted gouges/cuds and that "channel" running all around the rim on both sides whatever that's called.

Lots of pics. There's a closeup of Lincoln that looks like he's got a tear running down his cheek. There is a die gouge/cud south by southeast of the mint mark. Once in a while I almost catch a glimpse of die clash.

My old eyes are not seeing any doubling. Looks like a normal spender to me...

First think you need to do is put a filter on your light, too much glare. The better the pics you post, the better we can help you. The "channel" is called a Ridge Ring and it is from a worn die,no error. Cud's always include the rim,if only on the rim it is called a rim Cud,if it starts out on the rim and goes into the fields then it is called a Cud. I see no DDO or DDR and no die clash either,I see a spender.

the lighting your using can make everything on a coin look doubled to an untrained eye.

OK. I have old eyes too, but this is not glare-produced doubling. I will tone down the brightness of the copper plating a bit so you can see what I see... I know that die wear doubling can accompany the "gutter" effect but there isn't any - it is progressive from the center of the whole thing like a class II is supposed to be.

I will point out a few of the doubling artifacts that I had a hard time seeing with my tired old eyes so maybe you can see them too.

And I will certainly remember this and upload dimly lit pics from now on. I don't want to waste your time or mine arguing over what's there that you say isn't because you can't see due to glare.

Distorted Hub Doubling: Also called a Class 2 Doubled Die, distorted hub doubling occurs when a die is hubbed with 2 different hubs, one of which had distended design elements from either hubbing many other dies prior or because of a problem in the annealing process. If the normal hub was used before the distorted hub, the doubling will show on the rim side of the devices. If the distorted hub was used before the normal hub, then the doubling will show toward the center of the coin.

Example:

Close up pics with low lighting so you can see the doubling is doubling and not reflections, and so you can see that it isn't like worn-die doubling.

With the visible Ridge Ring it appears to be more in line with Die Deterioration Doubling. IMHO.

@Jim0815, the topic you linked to showed some pretty crap smeared dull indistinct Die Deterioration Doubling.

Please show me Die Deterioration Doubling that is sharp and clear and consistent with Class II doubling.
