I'm waiting on this coin and another awesome pic in the mail but figured I'd post this one and let you guys argue until I get it in hand. I've discovered a very visible LDS marker for this coin. It's not listed on vv of cc. There is a die gouge that runs through PLURIBUS! Very distinct on this coin!

Thanks guys. These are hard to come by in RD. We'll see what it looks like in hand!

I'm headed out fishing for the next two days and it should be here Thursday-Friday. I'll post more pics then that show the luster!

Thanks CH. I'm generally working more than fishing but it's a great job. Doesn't feel like work most of the time!

Excellent pick Will !
The gouge isn't a gouge though. It is a remnant of the clash that put the clashed S mintmark on the reverse. Here is a overlay of my VEDS example that shows where that clash mark came from.

This kind of clash mark is seen on tilted die clashes as well

Most of the time that clash would not be noticed. But a clash doesn't always affect the same exact area each time. I've seen areas affected before that usually aren't affected.

The normal area of a Jailhouse clash wasn't affected a strong.

But that is what it is on the Wheat cent with the mintmark showing. Nice solution to this issue.

Enjoy fishing..... check and see the mouth of the fish you will catch, you might be gifted with a coin in addition to your new coin coming... Just remembered, the story of the tax collector..... oh well, tax season, too.

Bad news on this one. As soon as I opened it the color was off. Look on the original pic and in the left field there are scratches. Harshly cleaned. I thought I was getting better at spotting these but I guess I was too excited about the variety.

I feel your pain Will.
I always call my VEDS coin an example because it has seen a dip in the past .
I wish people would leave a nice coin as is !

Wow, sorry to hear that. I didn't see it as cleaned either but another good example of how closely you have to look and still basically guess at times whether something has been cleaned or not. Hope you score a killer straight one to make up for it!
