Looks more like damage than an RPM.
Something has hit the top left of the mm and flattened it.

I completely agree also put what made me have second thoughts was how close the images from vv match is there any sure fire way to determining rpms like die marked on DDO &dde like I said new to rpms any help would be appreciated I dont really care if it's an rpm or not. I'm trying to learn them. Will they resemble hub machine or do rpms exhibit some different type.the 3 on the date looks the the vv pic I highlighted the mint mark and it's close maybe not a rpm.

Die markers are irrelevant, unless you have the variety to begin with.

With both areas affected, (date and mintmark) it is Machine Doubling. Not a RPM. A RPM would be raised, not flattened. (In most cases, as the punch would make an incuse mark in the die leaving a raised area on the coins. But some RPM were not the last punch and can be weaker. But where the date and mintmarks are affected the same it is Machine Doubling.

does anyone have any pointers as to what to look for on rpms

1. Find a potential RPM first.

2. When comparing to known varieties, Recognizing the type of RPM is helpful. Is it tilted, rotated etc, etc.

3. Comparing location is next. It will help make or break a match to known examples.

4. Markers can aid as well. Pending die state, the same markers may or may not be present.

Thanks, Doug.
