I'll say AU-50, possibly cleaned at some point.

the 01(O) are for the most part average in strike. the reverse on this one is AVG- for strike. not sure if it was cleaned but so far everyone else thinks so. I think the eye appeal is about 5/10. that said I'm netting it to AU53

OK, you all know I'm posting my silver dollars for a few reasons, and one of reasons is that I'm trying to learn, to get better at judging and grading my own coins There seems to be a pretty strong consensus here that this coin has been cleaned, but nobody has explained why. Would some of you mind explaining to me exactly what you see that I apparently don't understand?

Coins can be cleaned a variety of ways but this one looks like someone wiped it. You can see the hairline scratches going in the same direction, especially on the obverse.

For me it looks like the fields were cleaned or wiped, but the cleaning agent didn't get into the protected areas along the devices as much.
