Took a break from looking at half's and quarters and decided to take a look at some nickels, came across this one that looks like DDO-001 from Variety Vista, this example is obviously well worn but I found splits where they are suppose to be, was hoping an extra set of eyes could take a look and let me know some opinions, also note that my photos were taken from a different distance than the ones posted to variety vista so mine may not look as thick as theirs but there is extra thickness in the letters if you know where you are looking. Thanks in advance, Link to 1946-P DDO-001 http://varietyvista.com/04a%20JN%20...6PDDO001.htmHere is "GO" of "GOD" showing splits in the top and bottom of the "G" (red arrow points to them)  Here is the full "GOD" being compared to the one on variety vista, note the "O" has the same weird looking wavy bump/fin at the top as well.  and here are a few other comparisons with the one from variety vista.  Here you can see on the "T" of trust it has the exact same extra metal thing on the top right of the "T"    Everything seems to match accept for the "S" in trust, but this could be due to wear. I didn't post every photo I took for the comparison as there are quite a few and I didn't want to overwhelm anyone with photos, but if there are any areas you would like to see just let me know and I will post them. The bump is just a damaged area on the coin that matches the same damaged coin in the images. Note how much wider the LIB is compared with your coin. The bottoms of the date should be like that. If every device is not a match to the doubled examples listed, then it is not from that die. Also keep in mind on the coins with a mintmark, they locations of the mintmark must match as well (on the mintmarks with the doubling and mintmarks on the same side. (The opposite dies is sometimes changed and the die marriage is broken up so in that case the mintmark can be in a different location.)

Chase007, no need to be rude, if you looked you would see what "i think matches" and that is why I asked for an extra set of eyes since I'm not 100% sure and was looking for opinions, not somewhat rude comments that aren't very helpful.. thats how this forum works right? I come on here and post my finds after spending hours of researching for myself before asking these questions, I don't just pick and choose random coins to post in hopes of it having an error. There is no mint mark on this nickel, I am just going by what I see from Variety Vista and no not everything matches because my coin is fairly warn, but there are splits on certain areas which are obviously confusing to someone who doesn't specialize in DDO nickels, so I felt the need to ask since the splits don't look like MD or damage. I am here to l earn and to be educated and personally it seems like coop is the only one actually taking the time to educate people which is always highly appreciated. Thanks for considering that. Why do I teach this way? It look me 15 years to learn from yes and no answers. So by explaining each coin as what I see on it, the readers can benefit where I fill in blanks. Most are up to speed in months, instead of years with the way I show what I see. What is and what is not, is better explained with seeing. Everyone retains the information quicker. Yes or no is good, but helping others to see what I see, teaches.  |

Thanks for sharing your 15 years of accumulated knowledge.... as always.... thanks.... and thanks to all experts at CCF who contribute and share their knowledgeable information to the students of the hobby who seek assistance. We all need to learn and grow from positive and negative criticisms.... coin criticisms that is.....  |
