I would greatly appreciate your collective wisdom on the grade for this Morgan. This was a gift I received about 40 years ago. I'm just getting started collecting and would like to be better at judging grades. I would guess this falls between a "F15-VF-30". Did I get close?
Thanks,
Jon

Thanks Coinfrog! Wow, I wasn't even close. I'm here to learn, so I'll just keep on trying.

Would some of you that know more than I obviously do explain the dull look and then the light spots. I'm trying to learn too and I thought that this is how an over dipped silver coin looks, but nobody mentioned that it was dipped. So what gives with this coin, why does it have that strange tone, or do you all think it was just the way it was photographed?

the lighting a focus especially of the reverse is not clear enough to determine surface originality. the 02(O) is typically of average strike and i'd say this one is average. I'm at AU58 but unable to determine if it was over dipped. the scratches above the eye appear to be displacing metal. should that be the case then they may details the coin however, it is minor in nature and may pass

Hard to see the finer details in the pictures, but it looks about uncirculated. Would be worth around $30 as an AU55.
