Not sure what to make of the mint mark on this coin. It's definitely unusual. Anyone seen this before?

Looks like damage (perhaps even deliberate) to a Philadelphia mint coin.

What makes you say it's an S?

Regardless of what it is though its just damage.

A 1969 Lincoln could be P,D or S with damage .

I agree just a stain.
But with a bit of imagination I can picture an S upright MM, and D on it's back MM.

But the problem is that these are are incuse. Damage to the field of the coin that makes it look like something when all it is, is damage to that area. A mint mark is not incuse, but raised. So because neither areas are raised, it is just damage to the coin. It is a Philly cent with no mintmark.
