I thought I would start this new topic as I have been looking through some of the ebay offerings on the dot com site - and believe you me, SOME (not all) are an absolute rip-off to the collector.

If you are thinking of purchasing an 'expensive' or 'rare' piece or set - you can always check in with me, here, first. I can tell you what such a piece catalogues at and if the price being offered is a fair and reasonable one......and if the note or set being offered is indeed 'rare/scarce etc etc'.....if that is being stated by a seller.

I am astounded that sellers out there are putting such 'stupidly high' prices on their notgeld that they are trying to sell. Please don't get caught out. I am not trying to sell anything here, just warn prospective collectors and buyers.

As CCF members know - education and knowledge about these things we collect is a powerful tool to have. Use me please I have over 46 years of collecting experience.......and I am a hobbyist, researcher and collector at heart.....not a dealer.

If you are spending over 50 euros on a single piece of notgeld, on the ebay dot com site, you can check with me first, that it is a 'reasonable' buy or not. A free service from me as a CCF member to other CCF members.

Thanks @jbuck. There are too many sellers ripping collectors off out there!! I've just seen a note where a seller is asking 200 dollars US. You can easily get the same piece for 40-50 euros..............

I wonder how many notgeld collectors we have on this site? My wife just inherited a huge collection of notgeld and related books, mostly in German but almost every European language is represented.

@retiredkper - not sure, but hopefully collectors are enjoying seeing the wonderful notgeld issues that are being shown. Notgeld collecting is a very specialised area of banknote collecting but the rewards for the avid collector can be so huge. I've still got my passion for them even after 46 years of collecting. I still learn something new about them almost daily.
As well as Germany, other European countries did issue notgeld.........Austria, Belgium, France etc......
Is the collection paper or coinage?

Thanks Notgeld Man. The collection is mostly German and Austrian paper and books. We are just starting to sort it out and plan to start selling it when I find out where the notgeld collectors hang out. I know there are a lot of collectors but most tend to collect specific locations rather than the whole field.

@retiredkper - that can tend to be correct with the German and Austrian collectors. The UK, USA, Canada, Australia collectors etc etc.......tend to collect how they find most rewarding. Some may collect by topic................like 'military' or 'castles and knights' etc. Some will collect anything that takes their fancy. If a note or a set has a good story behind it, or something that is a bit 'unusual' about it/them........then that tends to make them more desirable.
Please don't expect to get a 'lottery-win' of money for your notgeld - they are pretty cheap on the whole..............but you obviously have scarcer and rare issues that people like me are always after.

For example..... there's a yellow linen 1000m piece with blue border selling for a total of 187 dollars US. I've got them up at 85 euros............I'm not trying to sell mine here but just point out that it is double the price it should be on ebay dot com Please be very careful!

I've had another look on ebay this evening and some anti-semitic notgeld are being sold at extraordinary prices - a total rip-off. Some are selling at 10x the amount they should be. Please be careful! You can always ask.......

I started my paper money obsession when someone sold me a tin full of Notgeld.

The designs were just amazing, even though later on I realised most of them aren't worth much. But too late the slide on the slope had started.

You know, given some of the absurd prices for other material on ebay (such as a common worn British penny), it should be no surprise that Notgeld prices are often inflated. that is how ebay is.

But that is not really a good enough an excuse - it is down to the very bad nature and non-existent moral compass of the seller working against the usual unknowledgeable collector. OK - make a profit but why sell something that should be 75 euros..... so maybe double that ...........if it is a good scarcer piece.......(supply and demand etc) ...but not near to 800 euros. That it a total dishonest rip-off and the seller here is a complete rip-off merchant. The poor bloke who has bought 1 from him already at that stupidly high price - my heart goes out to him. I would have sold him 1 for around 125 euros.......I think it is totally awful some of these sellers and their pieces on ebay.
