Quote: Would Like Opinions 1. You have a '63 quarter with a wicked scratch on the obverse. It is silver, but not worth over melt. Keep it in your silver stash. 2. You have a '72-D quarter with circulation wear and surface discoloration, perhaps from being buried. This one is a spender.

Yeah that one it is super dirty. But the copper content on the outer layer made me think about keeping or not. Definitely keeping the silver for my collection though

@gg808, ok well, the investment to keep it is only 25¢, so if you like it, then yes you absolutely should keep it.

The 72 quarter is thinner then other quarters I've compared it to. Mabye a factor in missing clad layer. If it is missing a layer I'd keep it regardless of condition

SOrry I misunderstood your question at first about this coin. I'm quite sure it isn't missing a clad layer, but if you post the weight of this coin, then we can confirm whether it is just surface discoloration or an actual mint error.

to CCF. The 63-D is only worth melt value, not a "collectable" coin. The other is not an error and spendable. John1

You should hold your coins by the edge to avoid fingerprints which can ruin the value of a coin
