Another one I really don't know what to make of. Weight is about normal so thinking struck through, but then there are those flat spots on the rim at 1, 5, 7 and 11 suggesting the coin was held in place to be altered.

Comments?

Held in place or the operation somehow jammed? I'd love to hear more theories about how this error was created (I know we don't have answers).

Can any part of the date be determined?

I'm thinking a selective application of 'high heat' may be a factor. If coins could talk.

If it is an error, prhaps the coin was struck with dies out of parallel? The bottom of the wheat ears and the top of Lincolns head look best struck and worse towards the other side of the coin. Maybe these parts were about the correct distance apart for striking?

Yes, the rotation is correct to within a degree or two.

I put it in a 2x2 but still am not really sure what to put on it.

How can you even determine it is a 1952D? That part of the coin looks warped to oblivion.

This coin has been altered -- most likely attacked with a buffing wheel.

Thanks Mike! Good to have this one settled as it isn't obvious. Always appreciate you help with these things.

And the date can be read fairly easily under a loop and the right light angle.
