Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and new to coins. I'm a cop who was badly injured on duty and in need of a hobby while I recover. I'm hooked on coins!! So I came across this quarter with bulges on it. I researched and in a couple forums including this one the consensus was heat either from a house fire or blowtorch or such. But the thing I'm hung up on are that in every picture I've seen the bulges are in the exact same spot. Has anyone else seen this or is there new information?

It is definitely just heat. I have seen the bulges in many locations but it is possible that some areas, like on the bust, not receiving as much pressure during striking are more prone.

to CCF. Thank you for your service to your community and get well fast. Your coin does have heat damage from, as you said a house fire or such. The bubble can appear anywhere on the coin.

@BH, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I agree that your quarter has been damaged by heat, I will say that I haven't thought much about the location of these bubbles. I don't see any reason for them to occur in the same place, although the mechanical process of creating the rim may bond the clad layers more strongly to the core. That might explain why we see the bubbles on the inner half of the coin.

Thank you for posting an interesting question, and I hope that your recovery goes well!

As the image of the quarter in Coop's picture shows the bulges are not always in the exact same spot.
