That's definitely not FS-101! Let's hope the current owner of the coin knows that, but judging by the $3k sale price, probably not.

Yikes. That's a bad mishap, and some poor fellow spent some serious cash on the wrong variety

That's a bummer for the 3k buyer! Definitely not a match. Good catch!

Oh boy! How the heck did that happen? It was clearly not FS-101.
Errers and Varietys.

I think they just looked at the thickness on the date? I looked at this coin a few times before I noticed it.

Not surprised at all. The more you look, the more you will find. According to PCGS, not only were a minimum of 3-4 graders assigned to this coin, but the "experts" assigned were assigned b/c of their expertise in this specific coin type. Let's examine PCGS's own words/claims: https://www.PCGS.com/PCGS-grading-process-video.Quote: GRADING: The coins are now ready for grading. Each order is distributed to graders based on their particular skill and expertise. While the graders are generally trained to handle coins from virtually all eras, they are assigned coins based on their strengths. The sheer number of graders assigned to each coin can also vary depending on the type of coin submitted. In all cases, at minimum, 3-4 graders are assigned to every coin for grading and verification. And we wonder why this forum says people should buy the coin and not the slab. A scientific grading system is very (X 10) long past overdue. But subjectivity brings in profits as does great marketing hype. More examples from this forum: http://goccf.com/t/346174#2967242http://goccf.com/t/130186

More importantly, PCGS does not guarantee their attributions. A wonderful example of this is the 1988 FS-901 RDV-006 Lincoln Cent. Out of the 2 dozen in MSRD they graded, only 1 is attributed correctly.

@GrapeCollects That is a scary statistic! Makes me trust PCGS even less with variety attributions.

All that is true, but a side note is that DDO-005 (WDDO-006) is far more rare than FS-101 so a pretty good character to find either way. Not $3K good, but still a tough one in any condition.
