The surface looks cast and the colour looks wrong. What does it weigh? Perhaps take a closeup (cropped) out of the holder?

Think both are fake? They've been in the family for 60+ years

I am not an expert on this type, but I see enough discrepancies in the 8 reales to make me think it is fake. On the cross side, there is a 3-dot motif in the scrollwork that is mostly missing on yours, the beaded circle has mostly round beads rather than trapezoidal. On the shield side, I think the shield details are too crude compared to authentic examples.
As others have pointed out, the overall appearance has features that are typical of a cast copy rather than a struck coin, though if it were a salvage coin, I think that can introduce artifacts due to corrosion that might make that a tougher call.

I agree it is a small investment for a potentially very valuable coin.

Let us know how it goes!
