Hi there - can anyone help identify this coin (if that's what it is). It is small (18mm), I'm guessing bronze, and crudely struck or cast. If it was a coin usually I'd at least be able to make out a date but I can't see any numerals, hence my doubts. I don't know where to start looking with this one. Many thanks!

Based on the diameter, I think that this is a Half Qirsh from Hejaz (Saudi Arabia).

Added: the coinoscope app nailed this one first try.

I can confirm the denomination. The inscription at center in the first image reads nisf / qirsh ("half qirsh").

Kushanshah, Spence, your knowledge - and your willingness to share it - is amazing. I'm pretty excited to have a Hejaz coin; I once read TE Lawrence's (Lawrence of Arabia) account of helping free the Hejaz from Ottoman rule, and have been interested in the area ever since. Didn't think I'd find a Hejaz coin in New Zealand...
As an aside, I was initially puzzled about how a Hejaz coin got here, but this country is awash in Egyptian and Middle Eastern coins of a similar era, brought back by New Zealand soldiers after WWI and WWII. Maybe it took the same roue.

... and I'd never heard of the coinoscope. I have a few more mystery coins so I'll give it a try... Thanks!
