A friend came to me with this piece asking about a possible value. While I have been a collector of errors and varieties for years, I've never been great on values. Could anyone give me an idea on this?

It's also in a packaged uncirculated mint set.

That's weird with the black marker spot?

Do you have a picture of the entire mint set?

To me it would be undesirable. But others, they might be interested?

Thanks Robjm99 for the updated photo.

I haven't seen something in this way, but wonder how it may got to that way.

Coop,

I could see that there's the missing piece of metal alloy around it, but what type of metal give off black color like that?

If something were like black grease with some grit, or black paper that had grease on it, or black material. But most of the time when you see grease on the coins, it is often just clear grease. (not dark colored) So I'm not thinking grease, but black cardboard, or paper match sticks? But sealed up like that makes me think it is a mint error. Just what? Not sure.

Neat.
The black mark seems to be smaller than the indentation on the coin.

Maybe it was coagulated grease that continued to dry up once it was inside the package?
I have seen clear or white grease but also a dark green.

You get grease packed with dirt, dust and other foreign materials it often looks black. This looks like an imbedded impacted grease strikethrough, with some edges of the struck in material having chipped off.
